Physical Education (PE)
What is Physical Education?
Physical Education is controlling our movements for a range of sports and activities, to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
PE and physical activity play a key role in life at Wilson’s Endowed. As well as two hours of PE lessons weekly, your child will also experience a fantastic Outdoor Adventurous Activities programme, fun extra-curricular sports clubs, and sporting competition with our local schools.

In 2023/2024, we achieved a Gold in the School Games Mark, a government-led recognition of our commitment to developing competitive sports and healthy lives in our school community. We are delighted to have maintained our Gold award in 2024/2025 also!

Local competition
We love competing with and against local schools! It helps us sharpen our skills, win and lose well, understand tactics, and learn to work together better. This year’s events include:
| Key Stage One multi-skills | Wednesday 8th October |
| Year 3/4 Quicksticks hockey | Wednesday 12th November |
| Year 5/6 Swimming gala | Wednesday 26th November |
| Key Stage One indoor athletics | Wednesday 11th February |
| Key Stage Two netball | Wednesday 11th March |
| Key Stage One orienteering | Wednesday 15th April |

| Key Stage Two Dynamos cricket | Thursday 2nd July |

Curriculum coverage
PE is generally taught in mixed-age classes, providing a wide range of sport-specific skills, fundamental movement skills and a strong progression of knowledge. In the early years and Key Stage One we concentrate on developing fundamental movement skills through a range of games and sporting situations. In Years 3 and 4, these skills are applied in game situations, before being applied with greater focus on tactics, strategy and improving technique in Years 5 and 6. Throughout this time, we also look to develop dance, gymnastics, teamwork and swimming.
Outdoor Adventurous Activities
We believe being outdoors and learning to take risk well is a vital part of growing up, and learning to work together. At Wilson’s Endowed, we follow this programme of OAA:
Reception – Exploring the Crook O’Lune
Year 1 – Rock pools and woods in Silverdale
Year 2 – Hiking Warton Crag
Year 3 – Canoeing and bushcraft on Lancaster Canal
Year 4 – Caving in the Dales
Years 5 and 6 – Camping in Coniston
